There is really no good explanation for 'We Are The Champions' by Queen, one of the best known sport songs ever, to be Sportsong of the Week #22, but now it joins the others! No need to tell a lot about the song, because everybody has heard it at least ones in their life!
"We Are the Champions" is a power ballad written by Freddie Mercury and recorded and performed by British rock band Queen for their 1977 album News of the World. It's one of their most famous and popular songs, it remains among rock's most recognizable anthems. It has also become an anthem for victories at sporting events, including as official theme song for 1994 FIFA World Cup. Most teams which win a championship play it at least ones during the celebrations.
Band member Brian May stated about the song: 'We wanted to get the crowds waving and singing. It’s very unifying and positive'. There is absolutely no denying these words. So sing it out loud when you win your game this weekend or just want to feel good! Keep fighting and you will become a champion!
Full lyrics "We are the champions" - Queen
I've paid my dues
Time after time.
I've done my sentence
But committed no crime.
And bad mistakes ‒I've made a few.
I've had my share of sand kicked in my face
But I've come through.
(And I need just go on and on, and on, and on)
We are the champions, my friends,
And we'll keep on fighting 'til the end.
We are the champions.
We are the champions.
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions of the world.
I've taken my bows
And my curtain calls
You brought me fame and fortune and everything that goes with it
I thank you all
But it's been no bed of roses,
No pleasure cruise.
I consider it a challenge before the whole human race
And I ain't gonna lose.
(And I need just go on and on, and on, and on)
We are the champions, my friends,
And we'll keep on fighting 'til the end.
We are the champions.
We are the champions.
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions of the world.
We are the champions, my friends,
And we'll keep on fighting 'til the end.
We are the champions.
We are the champions.
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions.
